It snowed on Friday! It didn't stay on the ground for very long, but it was rather magical, I think.
Also, it is Valentine's Day tomorrow, which is handled a little differently in Japan. Here, V-day is a time where every woman and girl goes to the store and buys a crapton of chocolates for the men in her life. They're not so much into cards, here - chocolates go to family members, classmates, and coworkers. I'm led to believe that though the tradition is that only guys get it, girls tend to spread it around to their female friends, as well. Dudes do jack squat on February 14.
Now, on March 14, the reverse situation happens. The men all go out and buy chocolate (white, I presume) and gifts for the ladies in their lives. This peculiar split situation came about through the Wonders of Capitalism (tm), and I'm sure you can all imagine how. Anyway, little bit of cultural info for ya there.

Do they have a name for the March 14 event? Beware the pre-Ides of March Day? (which of course catapults one quite naturally into thinking of buying white chocolate for females...)
ReplyDeleteThey just call it "White Day", which I just now realize I didn't actually say in the post, whoops!
