Train whistle blowing...

I have it on good authority from several kids' teachers that in Japan, little boys want to grow up to be either train conductors, soccer players, or baseball players. On my ride home tonight, this little guy ran past me up to the front of the train; ojiisan followed at a slower pace, but when he caught up with the kid, he scooped him up and they both spent the next six stops (until the end of the line) watching the conductors and chatting. It was adorable.

Incidentally, from many a chat with my female students on what they wanted to be when they grew up, little girls all want to work in either a flower shop, a Japanese bakery/sweets shop, or be an air hostess (flight attendant). That's if they have aspirations outside of getting married and having a family, of course - things are still much more traditional here, and every once in a while it can still throw me for a loop.
