It's here, and I believe it's here to stay. It was raining lightly when I went to the convenience store on break at work today, and when I got out of my station, it was absolutely pouring. It's a good thing that I bought rainboots yesterday - after quite a search; I baffled many a salesperson with the size of my feet (Canadian size 9 1/2, or 38 cm here in Japan) - most Japanese women have feet exactly half my size.
To those who may eventually need to use this information, I went to the B2 floor of the Matsuzakaya in Sakae. The boots on display that fit me were about 15,500 yen - chotto takai desu yo ne, so I asked the salesladies for something more yasui. After they got over their gigglefit at how strangely large my feet are, they came out with lovely boots for a mere 5,100 yen. Much better, and they fit like a dream.
The humidity here is unbelievable, however. As in, my hair is starting to curl slightly around the bottom - for those of you who know me in person, I have the straightest hair ever. Sure, it gets floofy and wavey-ish sometimes, but never a defined curl like unto the one I glimpsed while on my commute home this evening. The implications of this are disturbing, and I shall ponder them anon. But seriously, everything is sticky and bleh.
Yesterday, in addition to rainboots, I also acquired my bank card. I remain unable to properly use it until someone shows me how - apparently I have to insert my bank book into the machine as well, and I'm perfectly happy to wait until my Japanese coworker can take me through the motions, not least because I enjoy hanging out with her. For me to get my bank card, I had to find the main post office in my area, which happens to be located exactly across from the Japanese equivalent of a No Frills - jackpot! I can finally start shopping with meals in mind... as soon as I'm done what's in my fridge already.
The rain seems to have slacked off a bit; I believe that's my cue to run out quick to the Lawson's and pick up some fruit for breakfast tomorrow.
